Cette série fut crée après une résidence et une exposition de groupe au Diefenbunker à Carp près d’Ottawa en 2000.  J’ai eu l’idée de produire une série d’auto portraits avec mon habit à carreaux réfléchissants.  C’était le même habit que j’avais conçu pou rfaire une série en N&B après la série Paysages Étalonnés.  Durant cette période j’ai aussi réalisé une bande vidéo en high 8 de 5 min qui a mis plusieurs années avant d’être terminée  (2003-2013).  

 

Pour la prise de vue photographique, j’étais seul dans ces lieux inhabités.  L’atmosphère était assez étrange et particulier, avec l’air stagnant et l’humidité d’un sous sol de béton.  Je me sentais comme à une autre époque transporté dans le temps.  Parlant de temps, pour chacune des photos, j’avais établi le temps d’exposition à une seconde. C’était important pour moi conceptuellement et aussi pour obtenir une effet de bougé dans certaines images.  Je devais préparer le trépied, la mesure de lumière, le temps de pose ainsi que la source lumineuse dans l’axe de la caméra pour qu’il y ait la réflexion escomptée sur l’habit.

Irradiations, was created after a residency and group exhibition at the Diefenbunker in Carp near Ottawa in 2000. The atmosphere was quite strange and peculiar, with the stagnant air and humidity of a concrete basement. I felt like in another era transported in time. Speaking of time, for each of the photos, I had set the exposure time to one second. It was important for me conceptually and also to get a movement effect in certain images. I had to prepare the tripod, the light measurement, the exposure time as well as the light source in the axis of the camera so that there was the expected reflection on the reflexive fabric.
